Everytime I looked at this blog I felt there was something so wrong with it and never realized until today. The text wasn’t justified. I guess I’m sort of weird because I really hate when text is not justified.

That’s not at all weird, it’s quite normal. We’re used to reading text that’s justified, as that’s the case in just about all literature. It’s also generally easier on the eyes. Non-justified text (usually left-aligned) used to be employed to emphasize a passage of text in typesetting, not for long texts.
Typesetting is considered “ideal” if the distribution of letters on the page gives a uniform gray colour. Imagine near-closing your eyes so everything becomes blurry - the closer the text you’re looking at in that manner becomes to a uniform gray area, the better.
To this end, typesetting works by adjusting the spaces between letters and words to achieve an ideal distribution of letters on a line. In fact, the old leaden printing presses usually had several versions of each letter, each in subtly different widths, to provide even more options.
Most modern typesetting software doesn’t quite employ all the tricks human typesetters used - it’s sad, really.
